I used to check them regularly when I used Thunderbird. From time to time I found an email in the Junk that didn't belong there. But that was also more or less the fault of the sender, like choosing no or a bad subject or just putting in an image. Now that I switched to Googlemail I don't check them at all anymore since I have 2000+ spam mails and its way too tedious to go through them. Plus Googlemail's filter seems to be very reliable.
